General tips on using an online profile:

1.    Always ensure your login/password is known to you only.

2.    Do not disclose your password to anyone you would not give the key to your home. A password is an online key to your account.

3.    Use an easy to remember, but strong password (e.g. having 8 characters, a combination of alphabets, numbers and special signs @, #, $, %, & etc.).

4.    Do not use your date of birth, marriage anniversary, child’s name, spouse’ name as password; as these are easy targets of people who want to access other’s accounts.

5.    If you forget your password, you can reset it on your own via our reset password option. Do not take help of strangers in resetting your password.

6.    In case you feel your account is compromised, please notify us on above mentioned email so we can block your account, or send you a genuine password reset link.

Safety Tips - Connect Profiles:

With Connect, we aim to provide the desi community a safe and secure online platform, wherein, they can register and search a suitable match of their choice. Our dedicated security team periodically monitors that no irrelevant and / or inappropriate content is posted on our website. However, there are still some measures to be taken by the end users. Be cautious about your own privacy and have a safe and secure experience on our website.

Following are some do’s and don’ts that will help you protect your privacy:

Do's:

1.    Keep your login details confidential, as it can be used against you if it goes in the wrong hands;

2.    In case you receive a contact request or message that you are not sure whether you should respond or not, share it with a close friend to get an unbiased opinion of spotting a warning sign that you might have ignored;

3.    Avoid communicating with a person who tries to compel you to reveal personal information or tries to find ways to make you reveal it;

4.    Use our in-built website messaging function initially to communicate and only when you are comfortable share your personal email ID, phone number or other contact details, such as home address;

5.    Ask for a profile photo of your new contact, uploading a photo on Glocal Desi is free and very easy, there shouldn't be any reason of not uploading a photo;

6.    If you decide to meet one to one with your new contact, choose a public place like - a restaurant, cafe, mall etc. where people are around and ensure that you have your own transportation for commuting;

7.    If possible, take a friend or family member along while meeting for the first time;

8.    Leave your contact details - (phone number, address where you are visiting and whom you are meeting) with your family or friends. Do carry your mobile phone. If possible, keep the location of the phone enabled;

9.    Observe any inconsistencies in statements, like - age, hobbies, marital status, job, financial security, details of family members etc. If you notice any anomaly is what was written in the profile and reality, leave the meeting at your own wish and inform us on support@glocalphygital.com for further action.

10. Believe in your instincts, if you feel that your decision to fix one to one meeting was more of an emotional one and defies logic, you have all the right to pullback and change your mind.

Dont's:

1.    Reveal too much in your initial conversation with a new contact, like your name, address, phone number, email ID, office address, etc.

2.    Share everything about yourself too soon, till the time you're not comfortable with the other person, Watch out for people who ask unwanted questions like sharing your banking or credit card details;

3.    Use standard email signatures mentioning your phone number, office/ residential addresses;

4.    Use your regular email id while communicating with a person whom you hardly know;

5.    Meet until YOU are comfortable: It is your sole decision to decide when you are ready for the one to one meeting, no one can force you to meet in person;

6.    Allow the prospective match to pick you up or drop you at home for the first time.

7.    Go to an isolated place in the first meeting.

8.    Hesitate in reporting any unpleasant experience to us via support@glocalphygital.com and also informing the law enforcement if necessary. We will provide all possible assistance to the said authorities.

Safety Tips- Online Payments:

It is secure to make an online payment on Glocal Desi, only when you see an online payment option . Our payment gateway partner “Stripe” has all the required security measures in place to secure your payment profile, however we would advise you to:

1.    Keep your online banking ID / password secure and not share it with anyone;

2.    Keep your credit card information secure and avoid making online payments from a public computer such as an internet café;

3.    In case you see a double payment in your banking system or credit card statement, contact us immediately at 

support@glocalphygital.com so we can correct the error. For more secure payment advice, visit your bank’s website or visit our payment gateway partner at www.stripe.com

Other than our website’s online payment feature, avoid making a direct transfer to other user’s bank, e.g. as an advance payment for booking a room or home. We recommend first physically verifying the home and then only making a payment.

Guidance for Listing a Home, and Fulfilling a 'Requirement' or  ‘Service’:

All users are allowed to list their homes, publish their needs, called as “Requirement”, which means a desired item or service. Interested Desi Travellers may make offers to bring required items on terms expressed between the two users in a ‘Personal Message’. 

In addition to our Terms of Use, we would like to remind our users that:

1.      When agreed upon, fulfillment of the ‘Requirement’ or ‘Service’ by other Desi is a mutual agreement between the Lister and Consumer. Glocal Desi is neither a party nor accepts any liability on this mutual agreement between two users.

2.     Home, Requirement or Service listing on Glocal Desi is Completely Free. We do not charge any intermediate fee or any commission on fulfillment of requirements. Only services that are intended to be sold online may be subject to a nominal commission / service fee.

3.     Users should be as specific as possible about their requirement and mention ‘Where to Buy’, to help ensure that a Traveller Desi obtains and brings only the desired item.

4.     Dont use our Platform or to request that a Traveller obtain or bring any item, that is prohibited under various international laws or laws of any local jurisdiction applicable to goods, transit or destination. See list of prohibited items on Terms of Use page

5.     Consult the respective government agencies that regulate items that may and may not be brought into or out of a country of origin, without a customs duty or within the permissible duty limits.

6.     Traveller has to first buy the lister’s item with their own money—and from reputable places, so they always know exactly what is going into their suitcase, and should be able to control the risk of customs duty, and should not carry the items if they believe it may violate the customs regulations. Additionally, they must inform lister and Glocal Desi to remove that requirement from the portal.

7.     Risk of loss remains with the Traveller unless and until the Traveller has completed all the obligations under his or her agreement with the Lister, which includes bringing the items as agreed. Glocal Desi recommends that Listers and Travelers procure their own insurance to cover the cost and expenses relating to the requirement.

For online booking / sale of services, to ensure service delivery and user safety, we collect payment from consumer upfront, and transfer to the lister only after the consumer has confirmed receipt of service. In case of no confirmation, payment is transferred at least after 48 hours of order date / booking time.
